Creating Free Gift Offers

From the admin panel navigate to Promotions → Shopping Cart Price Rules.

To create a new free gift offer click on the Add New Rule button on the top right of the table. The New Rule form will appear.

Fill out any mandatory fields and if you would like, any optional fields in the Rule Information tab.

Move onto the next tab by clicking on Conditions in the lefthand menu.

Click on the green plus button to start adding a condition. 

Choose the type of condition for the rule. In this case it will be simply based on the subtotal of the cart.

Click on the default is to change the requirement of the condition and click on the three dots to the right of this to change the amount.

These will change depending on your product catalog.

Click on Actions in the lefthand menu to move on.

From the drop down options beside Apply choose Buy X get Y product free (with optional discount amount)

A new input field will appear below the selector for the Product SKU of the product that you would like to offer for free. Either enter the SKU into the field manually or else click the Product list button to choose the product from the list of products on the store.

Proceed to the next tab to give the rule a label (optional)

Result

Now when customers's shopping carts meet the Condition(s) that you set the free product will be added during the Checkout stage.
