The WordPress Footnotes plugin is compatible with Elementor, but has one thing that you need to pay attention to.

You can not create definitions when you edit the page using the Elementor builder. Creating definitions is available only in the metabox CM Footnotes - Definitions, when you edit the page using either Gutenberg Editor or Classic Editor.

When definitions are created, you can add the footnotes shortcodes in the needed places of the text when you edit the page using the Elementor builder:
