1) Check Glossary Index Page

First thing you need to check is if the glossary page exists and selected as an index page. You can check and configure it under the General Settings tab. The glossary page should be selected in the dropdown Glossary Index Page ID.

If the glossary page is not created, you need to create it - it can be done in two ways.

First way is to generate it automatically. Just check the option Generate page for Glossary Index and save the settings. The glossary page will be created and selected as an index page automatically.

Second way is to create the page and select it as an index page manually. Just place the shortcode [glossary] on the needed page, select this page in the option Glossary Index Page ID and save the settings.

2) Check If Backlink Options Enabled

Now head to the Glossary Term tab. Here you need to make sure that one or both options are enabled, depending on where you want to display backlink:

  • Show back link on the top
  • Show back link on the bottom

3) Check Labels

Head to the Labels tab. Make sure that the relevant labels for the top and bottom backlinks are not empty:

  • Back link text (bottom)

4) Theme Not Using "the_content" Filter

If after setting up all the options above the backlinks are still not displayed, then the problem might be related to the theme of the site.

This issue is quite rare, but if your theme doesn't use the filter "the_content", then backlinks will not be displayed on the glossary term pages. This issue can also prevent displaying the related articles list and other Glossary Term custom features.
