WordPress Table of Contents Plugin (CMTOC) - Style - Highlighting the current TOC element
Styling the Current Table of Contents element
Within the WordPress Table of Contents plugin settings it's possible to highlight the element that the user has most recently selected. This can be helpful in situations where it might be important for a visitor to know their progression through your site content.

Enabling / Disabling highlighting of current element
To enable or disable this feature, navigate to Admin Dashboard → CM Table of Contents Pro → Table of Contents tab → General Styling section.

Within the General Styling section identify the option Style the current element differently.
Check the box to the right of this label to enable this feature or uncheck it to disable it.

Scroll to the bottom of the Settings page and click Save Changes.
Keep in mind that if the Color is set to black by default the highlighted element will be unnoticeable or barely noticeable.
Changing the color of the last selected element
Click on the Color selector in the Current element styling section and choose the color that you would like the element to appear as.

Scroll to the bottom of the page and click Save Changes.
