WordPress Video Lessons Manager Plugin (CMVLM) - How To - Import/Export Videos with WordPress' Tool

Importing/Exporting Videos with WordPress' Tool

Back to User Guide

With WordPress Video Lessons Manager plugin it's possible to import and export videos across different websites using a WordPress' native tool.

To avoid confusion: these actions don't involve actual video files. That means that no movie files with extensions like .avi, .mp4 or .mov will be downloaded to the computer or uploaded to WordPress. Rather, a single small file is used: it contains information such as name, description and the path of the videos. So, this tool is not intended to perform a backup.

This feature can be located with the path Tools â†’ Export or Import

  • While Exporting, choose either All or Videos, depending on your needs;
  • While Importing, head over to the WordPress field and follow the instructions. It is necessary to have "WordPress Importer" installed - this is a free plugin maintained by WordPress.org, which can be found here.

The XML file

WordPress works with a kind of XML file for importing and exporting this data. Extensible Markup Language (XML) files can be opened and edited with a text editor if needed.

The XML file can contain data like posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, and tags. In the case of the videos, it holds information like name, description, comments etc.
